Modelling broadband polarisation in sunspots

چکیده

The eeect of line overlap (blending) on broadband linear (NLP) and circular (NCP) polarisation in spectra of solar magnetic regions , especially sunspot umbrae, is explored in a systematic way, employing spectrum synthesis in polarised light on a grand scale over thousands of Angstrr oms. An extensive grid of theoretical Stokes IQU V spectra allows the discussion of the dependence of NLP and NCP on atmospheric parameters such as temperature, microturbulence, magnetic eld strength and direction. NCP, resulting from incomplete cancellation of excess circular polarisation originating in blends (a small-number statistical eeect), can attain observable values even in perfectly static atmospheres.

Polarisation structuring of broadband light.

Spatial structuring of the intensity, phase and polarisation of light is useful in a wide variety of modern applications, from microscopy to optical communications. This shaping is most commonly achieved using liquid crystal spatial light modulators (LC-SLMs). However, the inherent chromatic dispersion of LC-SLMs when used as diffractive elements presents a challenge to the extension of such te...

Numerical models of sunspot formation and fine structure.

Sunspots are central to our understanding of solar (and stellar) magnetism in many respects. On the large scale, they link the magnetic field observable in the photosphere to the dynamo processes operating in the solar interior. Properly interpreting the constraints that sunspots impose on the dynamo process requires a detailed understanding of the processes involved in their formation, dynamic...

Simulation of broadband FWA networks in high-rise cities with linear antenna polarisation

A ray-tracing algorithm is used to simulate broadband radio propagation at 3.5GHz for a FWA network in a high-rise city environment. Both coverage and uplink interference are investigated, with linear antenna polarisation. It is shown that some rooftop locations are unsuitable positions for SU’s, due to the existence of single or multiple-bounce reflected rays causing uplink interference. It is...

The relation between the number of sunspots and fluctuation in the trend of climatic components in Iran during recent decades

This analysis was conducted on 31 synoptic stations in Iran. Initially, the Mann-Kendall test was administered in order to analyse the trend of alterations of these two components over time and the results suggest that 16% of the stations show significant relationship with annual precipitation (positive and negative). More stations showed significant relationships between sunspots and minimum a...

Using optimized distributional parameters as inputs in a sequential unsupervised and supervised modelling of sunspots data

Detecting naturally arising structures in data is central to knowledge extraction from data. In most applications, the main challenge lies in the choice of the appropriate model for exploring the data features. Quite often, the choice is generally poorly understood and any tentative choice may be too restrictive. Growing volumes of data, disparate data sources and modelling techniques entail th...
